Agent-based modelling of sports riots

Riots originating during, or in the aftermath of, sports events can incur significant costs damages, as well large-scale panic and injuries. A mathematical description of riots is therefore sought to better understand their propagation limit these physical financial damages. In this work, we present an agent-based modelling framework that describes qualitative features populations engaging riotous behaviour. Agents, pertaining either a 'rioter' 'bystander' sub-population, move on underlying lattice be recruited defect from respective subpopulation. particular, allow individual-level recruitment defection processes vary with local population density. This provides unifying link between multi-population stochastic models density-dependent reaction processes. Furthermore, continuum ABM shown system nonlinear reaction-diffusion equations faithfully agrees average behaviour individual simulations. Finally, determine unique correspondence mechanisms population-level counterparts, providing local-scale effects macroscale rioting phenomena.
